The rwiter refers to the lowering of the Main Street in Gorbals to allow the Neilston & Barrhead Railway to pass over it. “I strayed on to the said railway but was warned off & directly a train came rushing past..have you railways in Canada? By the bye have you seen the Fall of Niagara which I perceive from the map is not far distant from Toronto & which is allowed by some travelers to be the sublimest object on earth..” Carried across the Atlantic on the Cunard steamer “Europa”.
