HA 30 - Invoice from Bayley & Shaw, Fellmongers, Lether Dressers, Nottingham 1846

Invoice from Bayley & Shaw, Fellmongers, Leather Dressers, Glue Manufacturers, Lenton, near Nottingham addressed to Mesrrs A. Bell & Son, New York, for goods shipped on the “Franconia” and the “Ohio”. The letter bears the boxed ‘Too Late’ of Nottingham and a dated circular ‘Ship Letter/ Liverpool. It seems as if cheese was being sent in return: “only 33 of them to hand, the rest we know were thrown overboard, the vessel being in distress .. we see that Flour is quite too dear for shipment to this country. Will try another 5 tons of cheese, please see that it is of good quality”.
